Villano V Update

Dopo quasi 10 anni, Tazz è fuori dalla World Wrestling Entertainment.

ECW originals in TNA!

ROH TV report

ROH on HDNet 3/28/2009
By: Karl Clancey ( kace.2k4@gmail.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it )

We get a recap of last week’s main event to kick things off as well as the Hog and Prazak hyping our non-title main event which will be ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness taking on Jay Briscoe.

1. ROH World Tag Team Champion Kevin Steen vs. Eddie Edwards
No handshake from either Steen or Edwards as they are currently involved in a feud with one another over the tag team titles along with their partners: El Generico and Davey Richards, respectively. A series of shoulder blocks start things off, leading to an eventual drop toe hold into a front-flip legdrop from Steen. Edwards regains control with a sit-out belly to back suplex variation for a two count. Edwards keeps control with chokes, kicks and forearms while using various heel tactics such as pulling Steen’s nostrils and distracting the referee while his manager, Larry Sweeney gets a cheap shot in on Mr. Wrestling. Steen is able to regain the advantage with a rope assisted low blow which allows him to hit a belly to belly suplex and a cannon ball splash in the corner to a sitting Edwards. Steen then goes for a Swanton but Edwards gets his knees up to block it. Edwards then hits a backpack chin breaker for a near fall. After an exchange of kicks, Steen hits a powerbomb and then a package piledriver for the three count.

Winner: Kevin Steen @ 7:51

Kyle Durden is in the back interviewing the ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness. Nigel warns Jay Briscoe not to use any underhanded tactics or else Nigel will kill him in the main event.

2. Daizee Haze vs. Sara Del Rey
Early on, Del Rey uses her size and strength advantage to splash and toss the Haze around the ring. Daizee uses her speed to regain the advantage, putting Del Rey down with a springboard arm drag and a tilt-a-whirl head scissors. Daizee comes off the ropes for a cross body block, but is caught by Del Rey who hits her with a bridging fall away slam for a 2 count. Del Rey continues to dominate and works over the back of Haze with a backbreaker and some forearms. Del Rey locks the Haze in the torture rack, but Daizee escapes and hits Sara with a heart punch and a Yakuza kick. Del Rey reverses an attempted backslide into a Gory Especial and then boots Haze down into the corner. Haze comes back with a facebuster from the second rope which gets a near fall. Del Rey hits a Coppo Kick into the Royal Butterfly suplex for the win.

Winner: Sara Del Rey @ 5:26

Kyle Durden is backstage with Mark and Jay Briscoe. Mark is currently injured which leaves Jay competing in the singles division. Jay tells Nigel that he wants a title shot when he wins his match tonight. The Briscoes advise Nigel to “man up”.

After a quick commercial break, we are once again sent backstage where Kyle Durden is standing by with Prince Nana. The last time we had seen Prince Nana, he was down on his luck and begging ROH management for a job. Nana calls ROH management “fools” and says that he is planning to unleash Bison Smith on Ring of Honor.

3. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Alex Payne
The fans yell “HEY” which raises the ire of Claudio. The Hog points out that Alex Payne “looks about twelve”. Early sequence leads to a European uppercut on Payne. Sugarfoot comes back, though, and hits Claudio with a head scissors takedown and then a roll-up for two. Claudio puts a stop to Sugarfoot’s momentum by swatting away his dropkick and hitting a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for two. More European uppercuts and a dead lift suplex gets Claudio another two count. Claudio then hits a bicycle kick, but a nonchalant cover only earns him a near fall. Payne tries to fight back, but gets nailed with a slam for yet another two count. Claudio works over Payne with cravats and a chinlock, but Surgarfoot gets out of them and nails a series of dropkicks and a running knee. Sugarfoot gets on the ropes and leaps off with a Rick Steiner-esque bulldog from the middle rope. Claudio does regain the advantage though, and hits Payne with a pop-up European uppercut and then the Ricola Bomb for the victory. The Hog calls Claudio a ‘Swede’. Lovely.

Winner: Claudio Castagnoli @ 6:18

4. Non-title Main Event: ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness vs. Jay Briscoe
Nigel locks in a wristlock on Briscoe to start off the match. We get some actual noise from the crowd who give us a dueling chant for the first time. Nigel bends Briscoe’s arm back, but Briscoe reverses it into a half crab. Briscoe then locks in a side headlock, and keeps it on despite Nigel’s best efforts to escape. Briscoe takes Nigel down with shoulder blocks and then transitions back to the side headlock. Nigel finally escapes the headlock for good by yanking down on Briscoe’s left arm, which sends Briscoe crashing to the mat. Nigel hits a back heel trip, and continues to work on Briscoe’s left arm. Jay is able to hit a dropkick which does earn him a two count. Nigel keeps working the arm using an arm whip and the top rope for leverage to do extra damage. Jay tries to fight back, but Nigel hits a hammerlock divorce court to kill Briscoe’s momentum. Nigel works the arm some more with a suplex and some arm submissions. Jay hits a big boot which knocks Nigel down for the first time in the match. Nigel hits a headbutt on Jay, but Jay catches Nigel coming off of the ropes with a spinebuster for a two count. Nigel regains the advantage with a kick to the back/forearm combination in the corner. Jay reverses the Tower of London and then hits the death valley driver for a near fall. Both men battle on the top rope and Nigel is knocked off. That allows Jay Briscoe to hit a guillotine leg drop which only gets him another two count. Nigel blocks the Jay Driller and hits the Jawbreaker Lariat for the 3 count.

Winner: ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness @ 12:05

We get a preview for next week’s show which will feature a battle of ROH mainstays as ‘American Dragon’ Bryan Danielson will take on Austin Aries in the main event.
Another solid wrestling show here. Not much else to say, honestly. It seemed with the Nana interview that they were trying to insert some storylines into the show which would break the monotony a little. These shows are being written for the audience who haven’t seen many or any of these guys before, so I’m eagerly anticipating the shows in a few months time when the characters have all been introduced. AAA house show report 3-27 Fresno

AAA house show report 3-27 Fresno

Just wanted to give an arena report from the AAA Lucha Libre show here in Fresno. The event took place Friday night (3/27) and was actually a pretty good show. It was my first time attendinng AAA, and I don't speak spanish, but I was still able to follow the show and the matches for the most part. The show was scheduled to start at 7:30pm, but did not start until 8:00pm, not sure what the delay was. The crowd was hot for most of the matches, and everyone was cheered, so I'm not sure who the faces and the heels were since it was difficult to judge on the crowd reaction, just some wrestlers were cheered more then the others. The show started with a video tribute to the late Abismo Negro and the crowd gave a standing ovation for the tribute. The show then started with a promo between Konnan and Crazy Boy, not sure what was said, but I think the storyline was that Konnan was kicked out of the building for the night. Konnan was in street clothes, walked with a limp, and looked really tired by the way. After the promo we then saw 5 matches, all matches were mostly 6 man tag matches, with 1 singles match. The match/ups were the following and in the following order:

Deccnis & Mini Abismo Negro

VS

Pimpinella & Mascarita Segrada

(Match was won by Deccnis & Mini Negro, my first time seeing a match that involved a tag team of a midget and transvestite)

Crazy Boy & SuperFly VS. Joe Lider & Jack Evans

(Match won by Crazy & Fly)

Silver King VS. Vampiro

(Match won by Vampiro)

Chessman, La Parka, Laredo Kidd
VS
Psycho, Zombie, & Killer Clown

(The match was won by the clowns)

Main Event was
Cibernetico, El Mesias, & Charly Manson
VS
Dark Ozz, Dark Cuervo, & Dark Scorria

(Match won by Mesias, Manson, Cibernetico)

Other notes:
The crowd cheered for everyone but the biggest pop of the night went to El Mesias, who was really over and just a huge monster in person. I remember him from TNA as Judas, and he is bigger now then back then. I have to say Jack Evans did not get much of a crowd reaction, I think because he is not really a Lucha star but more of an american star since they did not really pop for him. But my god, his moves were just incredible, almost unbelievable moves he was doing out there, by far the most talented of the whole crew I thought, he was really working his ass off. I then had the pleasure of seeing Vampiro "The Snake" Roberts, uh, I mean Vampiro. I have not seen him since his WCW days, what a fall from grace. He did not have the face paint or long dreads anymore. He had a buzz cut, was heavy, moved really slow, and appeared to be really out of it. He got a good pop from the crowd, but he just really looked bad. All of the matches were good, the opening match with the transvestite (Pimpinella) was a comedy match, as was the clowns / La Parka match, but the other matches all had a serious tone. The crew and wrestlers all looked tired, maybe from the travel? The crowd was a ton of kids since kids that were 10 or younger were admitted free. The ring set up was good for a house show, but I just don't like the octogon ring for pro wrestling, it works for MMA but not for wrestling, I don't like the ring in TNA for that matter either. Anyway, It was a good show, lasted about 3 hrs. I thought some of the show would be in english since they are on an american tour, but everything was in spanish from the ring announcing to the video packages they presented. My first time with AAA, but I enjoyed the show. Jack Evans is a superstar in the making, and should be the TNA X division champion right now, he is that talented. Mesias is a monster and was the most over with the biggest pop.

UFC 99

Denis Stojnic, proveniente da Sarajevo (corrected by ZioDanilo), affronterà l'Olandese Stefan Struve. Entrambi vengono da una bruciante sconfitta.

Juventud Guerrera-AAA Update

MMA-Shoot News

NEWS

Hijo del Santo was asked today about the WWE making an impact in Mexico and Santo said that he thinks that it was a bad move by the local sponsors to bring in the WWE into Mexico because it means that there are lesser shows in those arenas for bigger independent shows. Santo went on to say that Mexico has a great variety of wrestlers that need work and television exposure and with the WWE coming in like they have it has stopped a lot of promoters from running bigger independent shows because fans are saving their money for when the WWE comes to town. Santo was asked how this affected him personally and he said that it didn’t but it affected the country in general because it is saturating the TV industry and the house show industry because no one can compare with the production values that the WWE has including AAA & EMLL. Santo called out EMLL especially saying that Arena Mexico’s crowds have dipped a lot lately and they don’t know how to market their product for television because if they did then they could overtake AAA and compete with soccer in popularity. Santo said that the younger fans should be exposed to their local wrestlers because with younger fans following the WWE there is no way the promotions and wrestlers can compete against that machine.

ROH 7th Anniversary Show from NYC

ROH at the Hammerstein Ballroom 3-21 New York
By Joe Lanza

ROH 7th Anniversary Show from NYC:

Roderick Strong & Erick Stevens def. Rhett Titus & Kenny King: Hot opener. Strong deserves a better spot, his character seems directionless right now. Titus & King are over, and make a solid team.

Brent Albright def. Claudio Castagnoli via DQ: Match went to a 15 minute draw, but Castagnoli asked for 5 more minutes, and Albright accepted. Castagnoli immediately low blowed Albright when the match was re started, resulting in the lame DQ finish. Fans were not happy. Castagnoli attacked Albright with a chair post match, and left him laying.

Bobby Dempsey def. mystery opponent Adam Pearce in 30 seconds: Pearce had a verbal confrontation with NBC's Mike Oliphant (sp?) before the match, and gave him a good shove that tore his shirt. Once again, they booked Dempsey in a quick squash, which is a smart thing, but where do they go from here? He's already gotten his revenge on Sweet & Sour multiple times now. A match with Chris Hero?

Jerry Lynn def. Mike Quackenbush: Solid match, but too short to develop into anything more. Lynn won out of nowhere with the cradle piledriver.

Tyler Black, Necro Butcher, & Delirious def. Austin Aries, Jimmy Jacobs, & Brodie Lee in a "Revolution Rules" match: What a disaster. One of the worst matches i've ever seen in the dozens of ROH shows i've attended. Confusing rules (even the wrestlers seemed confused), and just plain awful. Delirious was eliminated first, via pinfall. This meant the next fall had to be a submission. However, this did not stop the participants from going for pins, or ref Todd Sinclair from counting them. Necro Butcher & Brodie Lee were eliminated next, via DQ for "leaving the ringside area". Keep in mind, there were supposed to be no DQ's, and neither man submitted. That's besides the fact that 90% of the match was a brawl away from the ringside area. Next one out was Aries, who was submittted by Black. They did a bunch of nearfalls, so everyone assumed we were back to pinfalls, so the submission was again quite confusing. Whatever. Black then beat Jacobs, to absolutely ZERO pop. Everyone hated this, but no one really wanted to shit on Black, who worked hard and is very over. This was like a bad TNA gimmick match, but much worse. Even more confusing than the reverse battle royal, and the match quality wasn't very good either, aside from the stuff with Black & Aries. Brodie Lee is not up to ROH standards, and drags everything down. Just a beyond horrible match.

Intermission: RIC FLAIR will be in NYC in June.

Bryan Danielson & COLT CABANA def. Bison Smith & JIMMY RAVE (w/Prince Nana & Dirty Ernie Osirus): Rave got a big pop when Nana called him out, and it was good to see him back in his "crown jewel" gimmick. He was, however, out of shape, with a small belly hanging over his tights. Must have been nice working with a T-Shirt for a year. Grizzly Redwood initially came out as Dragon's partner, to many groans from the crowd, but was quickly dispatched by Smith, leading to COLT CABANA hitting the ring, to by far the largest pop of the night. MEGA HEAT for the return. Match was ok, nothing special, but it wasn't about the match, it was about the surprise returns of the two former regulars. Post match, Cabana asked for "Final Countdown", and Colt & Dragon played to the crowd as they sung along.

D-Lo Brown def. Jay Briscoe: D-Lo cut a promo before the match, thanking WWE fro dropping him, and proclaiming ROH his new home. He turned heel during the match, using a low blow (no DQ this time, so why was Claudio DQ'd earlier? The Pearce booking is wildly incosistant), and won out of nowhere with a rollup while holding the tights. Underwhelming 80's style match with a lame 80's style finish. Crowd hated this.

Kevin Steen & El Generico def. Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards to retain ROH World Tag Titles: Awesome match, with Generico stealing the show. Apparently this was no DQ, and they went right to the chairs & ladders early. Too many crazy spots to keep up with. Generico was on fire, and nailed all of his daredevil spots. This match, along with the Colt Cabana/Jimmy Rave returns, make the DVD a MUST BUY if you are on the fence about the show. I'm not usually a star rating guy, but this was easily ****1/2 or ****3/4. Off the charts heat start to finish. Post match, Wolves got their heat back, and laid out Generico through a table before taping Steen to the ropes and killing him with a double chairshot. Match and angle were nothing short of awesome.

Nigel McGuinness def. KENTA to retain ROH World Title: KENTA immediately attacked the injured arm with high kicks & armbars. They worked this match slow, plus the previous match was hard to follow, so the match had little heat. Many people were leaving, which is baffling, because KENTA dosen't come around very often. Crazy. People weren't buying that KENTA could win, either. Despite these hurdles, the final 5 minutes were very good. KENTA pulled down the knee pad, and hit the GTS, but Nigel made the ropes on 2. Nigel missed a bunch of rebound jawbreakers, and countered at least three GTS attempts. Nigel hit his own GTS for a two count. KENTA survived multiple Tower Of London's and London Dungeon attempts. He eventually tapped after a hot sequence. Good match, would have been much better with a better crowd. I'd say ****.

A quick note....most of the guys had their old music back, but a few, most notably Castagnoli with his new classical song, and Nigel, still had the new generic stuff. Didn't look like a sellout, because they removed several rows of empty seats a few minutes before the show started. Overall, a nothing show pre intermission, which has been the case since Pearce took over the book. Show was saved by the awesome tag title match.

Here are the results for ROH’s seventh anniversary show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City:

3/21 ROH (New York City): Roderick Strong & Erick Stevens b Rhett Titus & Kenny King; Brent Albright b Claudio Castagnioli by DQ; Bobby Dempsey b Adam Pearce; Jerry Lynn b Mike Quackenbush; 6-man tag Ultimate Endurance Elimination Revolution Rules match: Delirious & Tyler Black & Necro Butcher b Austin Aries, Jimmy Jacobs & Brodie Lee, Tyler Black last survivor; Bryan Danielson & Colt Cabana b Bison Smith & Jimmy Rave; D’Lo Brown b Jay Briscoe; No DQ ROH World Tag Titles: Kevin Steen & El Generico (c) b Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards; ROH World Title: Nigel McGuiness (c) b KENTA

Notes: The Adam Pearce match was a total squash lasting probably a little over a minute which leads me to believe Pearce’s return is a one-shot deal. In the Ultimate Endurance match, Aries pinned Delirious so the next fall could not end in pinfall, Brodie and Necro were eliminated for brawling away from the ring, Tyler Black caused aries to submit to the End Times although he might’ve been already out from a superkick. The next fall could not end in submission. This didn’t stop Jacobs from using the End Times twice, the second time Black turned it into God’s Last Gift (his small package driver) and pinned Jacobs. Aries and Jacobs didn’t get along in the match …Jimmy Rave got a nice pop. As soon as Prince Nana said the words “crown jewel” the crowd started cheering and doing the Embassy sign. He also got cheers of “Welcome back”” and did a good job of staying in character and acknowledging none of it. After Danielson came to the ring, Grizzly Redwood’s music hit. He came down climbed to the top turnbuckle, leaped, was caught by Bison Smith and thrown out the other side. Then Cabana’s music hit and the crowd went wild. I was surprised to see him there since I saw it reported that he had a 90 day no compete clause. Maybe it means he couldn’t appear at the TV tapings and on PPV… D’Lo said he was told ‘we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.” He said that was all got from the WWE after a lackluster return where he wasted his time. He said he had two words for the WWE: thank you. His future endeavors were going to be in ROH. It appears he’s turning heel. He shoved the ref, then kicked Jay in the nuts. He also won by holding the tights. A new Embassy member perhaps? A ton of high spots in the tag title match including Eddie Edwards taking a sick chair shot in the head. Maybe Chris Nowinski should pay another visit. The post –match beatdown saw Generico put though a table with an assisted ace crusher. Steen was tied to the ropes by tape and his injured knee was repeatedly worked over with chairs. He spat blood at Edwards and was given a conchairto. The world title match started off slow but picked up speed and turned out really good. Nigel gave kENTA the GTS but KENTA kicked out. Nigel was hit with it but put his feet on the ropes. KENTA tried the move three more times but Nigel was always able to counter it. He won by submission….I felt the second half (which started with Danielson’s tag match) was better than the first half….A lot of entrance music changes which I guess is because of the TV deal. At the end of his tag match Cabana asked for “Final Countdown” to be played and it was….Curious by his absence was Larry Sweeney….ROH returns to Manhattan June 13 with Ric Flair.

ROH on HDNet 3/21/2009

ROH on HDNet 3/21/2009

To kick off the inaugural show, we get an opening video package set to a generic rock tune featuring plenty of in-ring action. We then head to our hosts: Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak. Prazak explains the Code of Honor ( meaning wrestlers are to shake hands prior to every match), and they hype the main event which will feature Tyler Black taking on Jimmy Jacobs.

Prior to the opener, we get a little 10 second promo from both men called “Smack Talk”. This would be a recurring theme throughout the night. We also get three facts about each wrestler as they make their entrance.

1. Delirious vs. Jerry Lynn
The bell rings, causing Delirious to undergo his usual freak out. An opening exchange of headlocks and arm wringers leads to Lynn locking on a bow and arrow submission hold. Delirious escapes, but Lynn locks in a headlock which results in another sequence ending in a Jerry Lynn head scissors and backbreaker for a two count. Delirious regains the advantage and hits a senton splash for a near fall. Lynn counters a clothesline into a backslide for a two count and then hits an inverted Gory special which gets him another two count. Delirious comes back with a drop toe hold into the corner allowing him to hit the Panic Attack (running knee strike). He misses Shadows Over Hell (top rope splash across the back) and both men then exchange two counts. Lynn hits the top rope huracanrana and then the TKO for another near fall. Delirious misses a splash in the corner and, upon turning around, gets hoisted up and nailed with the cradle piledriver which earns Jerry Lynn the three count.

Winner: Jerry Lynn @ 5:40

Kyle Durden (ROH Reporter) is interviewing Tyler Black. Durden explains the storyline with Black and Jacobs. Black says that the revolution of the Age of the Fall wasn’t meant to change people, it was supposed to give the people hope, and that in tonight’s main event he will kick Jimmy Jacobs’ head off.

2. Sami Callihan vs. Kenny King
Before the match, we get “Smack Talk” from both men. Sami claims that where he’s from, it’s Halloween 365 days a year. Kenny King is described as a “ladies man”. The match begins with King reversing an early arm wringer into a Japanese arm drag. Brief exchange leads to a Callihan headlock, but King hits a neck snap on the top rope and a clothesline for a two count. King hits an eye gouge and chokes Callihan over the top rope before hitting a springboard legdrop for 2. King hits a headstand enziguri and a spinebuster for a near fall. Sami regains the advantage with an atomic drop and an exploder suplex as both men are down. Sami hits a combination chinbreaker/sliding clothesline and then locks in the Koji Clutch which King escapes by making it to the ropes. Sami misses a charge into the corner and is met with two knees to the back from King. King hits ‘The Coronation’ (kind of like a belly-up death valley driver) and gets the three count.

Winner: Kenny King @ 5:43

We go back to Kyle Durden who is standing by with Jimmy Jacobs. Jimmy explains that he brought Tyler Black into ROH to fight the masses, but now Tyler is fighting for the masses. Jimmy says he will break Tyler Black in the main event.

We get a video package profiling ROH, and showing all the people who have been in an ROH ring (CM Punk, Samoa Joe, Ric Flair, Mick Foley, etc.)

3. Brent Albright vs. Rhett Titus
During Smack Talk, Rhett Titus claims to have “shoulders like boulders” and that “the thrust is a must”. Brent Albright says you can either “get out or tap out”. During his entrance, Rhett gives his room key to a lucky female fan in the front row. Albright gets the early advantage with chops and a delayed vertical suplex. Rhett sits on the top turnbuckle after some offense and taunts Albright with a hip swivel. Albright pulls him off of the ropes into a backbreaker for a near fall. Albright hits a nice splash mountain for a two count. Albright knocks Rhett out of the ring then hits a plancha to the outside. Rhett then rakes Brent’s eyes, and sends him face first into the turnbuckle. Rhett again gouges the eyes of Albright, allowing him to hit a seated dropkick and then a knee drop which earns him two. Rhett, to add insult to injury, thrusts his crotch right into Albright’s face. Albright soon regains the advantage, however, and hits Rhett with a leg lariat and a dropkick for two. Albright decides to finish off Rhett with a rock bottom followed by a half-nelson suplex and then his “Crowbar” arm submission to gain him the victory.

Winner: Brent Albright @ 6:35

Prior to the main event, a video recap of the Tyler Black/Jimmy Jacobs feud is shown. We see clips of their argument from the Rising Above pay per view, as well as Jimmy Jacobs turning on Tyler Black after Black had lost to Austin Aries at Final Battle.

4. Main Event: Tyler Black vs. Jimmy Jacobs
Black starts off strong with a dropkick and some right hands, causing Jimmy to take a powder. Jimmy grabs two chairs and throws them into the ring which distracts Tyler and allows Jimmy to sneak attack him and gain the unfair advantage. Tyler regains momentum and gets a near fall after a dropkick, springboard crescent kick and a stomp to the face. Tyler reverses a double axe handle attempt into an inverted atomic drop. Jacobs is able to hit a head scissors which sends Black into the turnbuckle. Jimmy hits a forearm from the middle rope for a two count. Tyler comes back with a burst of energy and knocks Jimmy down. He climbs the top rope, but Jacobs shoves him off which causes Black to hit the guardrail. Jacobs hits an elbow drop off the apron and rolls Black into the ring. Jacobs works over Black for the next little while with punches, forearms, and chokes. Jacobs hits four double stomps and an elbow drop. Jacobs taunts Black with playful slaps, causing Black to become enraged and giving him the motivation needed to mount a comeback. Black hits an enziguri into a springboard lariat for two. He then hits a standing shooting star press which also only earns him 2. Jacobs hits a spear off of Black’s missed Phoenix Splash and gets a near fall. Tyler hits a pele kick but Jimmy throws him out of the ring and hits a plancha onto Black onto a chair. Back in the ring, Jimmy counters God’s Last Gift (a small package driver) into the End Time (a guillotine choke). Black pushes Jimmy off and misses a superkick. Jimmy rolls him up into the End Time again, but Black bridges out into a pinfall attempt earning him the 3 count.

Winner: Tyler Black @ 13:51

A promo airs for next week’s show which will feature ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness vs. Jay Briscoe.

I thought this show did its job. It attempted to introduce ROH to a new group of fans with profiles of every wrestler and a very basic layout. The matches weren’t spectacular but they showed off the ROH style very well and were all fun to watch in their own way. The production was off the chain compared to most ROH stuff, and really makes them look major league. Dave Prazak was very toned down on this show. It was almost as if he was trying too hard to be “professional”. Mike Hogewood wasn’t all that bad. I’m not sure how much he knew about the product, but he was enthusiastic (and never once said the main event didn’t sound all that interesting). I think he’ll grow into it. Overall, I really enjoyed the show and am looking forward to the weeks to come. Any feedback you have can be sent to my e-mail address: kace.2k4@gmail.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or you can reach me at http://www.entertainment-central.net (username: KCC) as I am checking that site perhaps more than my e-mail. Altro record per Impact!

- Last night's edition of Impact scored a 1.34 cable rating, with an average of 1.8 millions viewers.

- TNA Impact was #1 among M18-49 in cable during its time period and the #2 program among M18-49 in cable for Thursday (total day).

- This was its highest M18-49 and M18-34 ratings ever for a 2 hour telecast.

- Impact earned a 1.34 cable rating -- a 1.21 in M18-49, a .80 in P18-49, and a 1.13 in M18-34.

- The show did quarter hours of 1.30, 1.25, 1.31, 1.35, 1.37, 1.38, 1.31, and 1.45

-------------------------------------

TNA Impact last night set a TNA viewership record in the key demographic of males 18-34 and 18-49. The show overall scored a 1.34 rating and averaged 1.8 million viewers.

Impact rebounded from the previous week's drop to a 1.18 rating for the final show before the Destination X PPV. The show had been averaging a 1.30 rating since February 19 before the drop.

The key quarter-hour for last night's Impact was in the final quarter hour of the show for the TV main event of Kurt Angle & Sting vs. Mick Foley & Jeff Jarrett. The show peaked with a 1.45 rating for the main event after slipping to a 1.31 rating for the seventh quarter hour.

TNA has reversed the pattern of the first hour being watched more than the second hour. The show started with a 1.30 quarter hour, slipped into the mid-1.20 range, then slowly built to the mid-1.30 level before peaking at the end.

Caldwell's Analysis: Very impressive numbers for TNA, especially going up against the first day of the NCAA tournament last night. To draw that large of a male audience that would have been expected to be watching basketball is a strong sign of building a loyal free TV audience for the product.

Sorprese in AAA/CMLL News
