Regarding talks of Dave Bautista, 44, returning, there was a report and
we checked around on it. Two different sources have indicated there
have been talks, although I don’t know how recent or serious they are,
which only makes sense since HHH was pretty much Bautista’s mentor as a
wrestler. But he’s not coming back any time soon. If he does come
back, it would probably be in early 2014 for Mania season, and one
person noted he’s not going to do that if he’s got anything going on for
early next year in movies, because that’s his line of work and priority
now. But he has said in the past he’s up for one last run, and those
in the company believe at same point that is likely to happen. Bautista
is currently in England filming Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” in
the role of Drax the Destroyer, and will be there for some time. It was
described as something that may happen, but it is not something that is
in plans. As far as he himself, on Twitter, he said, “Not that it
wouldn’t be nice, just don’t want anyone to buy into bullshit rumors. I
haven’t talked to Hunter. And I’m tied down for a while.” He has made
it clear if he was to come back, it would only be for WWE. TNA made a
play for him when Flair was working there but it never even came close.
The thing is, the comeback for Mania stuff, that before was limited to
Dwayne Johnson and Jericho, can get out of hand. There were actually
complaints about Johnson, which was ridiculous since he moved the needle
significantly the last three years, and in the current top three
matches, at this point five slots will be taken by non-full timers not
including potential returns of Jericho, not even factoring Batista.
Batista could fit in given Rock and Austin are both far from locks for
next year. But if one, let alone both, are on the show, I wonder if it
would the right year for Batista without making the guys like Punk,
Bryan, Orton, and really everyone but Cena (who is a lock for a top
match no matter who is brought back) really seem secondary on the
biggest show. Then again, at Batista’s age, if he wants one last run, I
don’t know how many more years you want to wait.
