Jesse Sorensen said in his Highspots.com interview that TNA didn’t pay
his medical bills for his neck injury, and his mother was left with the
bills and she had to declare bankruptcy. Sorensen in the interview said
TNA wouldn’t pay any of his medical bills and at first his mother’s
insurance paid for them, but she eventually went bankrupt having to pay
the extra, the premiums and other costs associated with his treatment.
He also said that it was Bob Ryder, who heads the company’s travel
department, that called him and told him he was being released. At the
time, Sorensen was not an active wrestler but an office worker.
Sorensen said he was given the impression from Ryder that the decision
was made by Dixie Carter and CFO Dean Broadhead, and noted that his
contract had not yet expired. That is the absolute worst that if a
wrestler is injured performing on your show and gets hurt, the company
leaves them with any medical bills. It is legal with the independent
contractor nature of their deals, but it’s abhorrent that this still
happens in semi-major league wrestling, let alone for an injury that
severe. It’s neither the first or last time it’s happened with TNA, but
I think the general belief was due to the nature of this injury, that
the company was covering him.
