FULL WWE PAYBACK BLOG - CRAZY MAIN EVENT, CENA-WYATT...WOW, GROUNDHOG DAY FOR PAIGE, TITLE UPDATE, AWESOME OPENER MAKES UP FOR THE PRE-GAME STUFF, THE RHODES BOYS VS. RYBAXEL, BATTLE OF THE BIG MEN LEAVE ME WANTING MORE, RVD VS. BAD NEWS

The first thing of note on the pre-game show, and I used that term loosely, was Torito coming out wearing a shirt that said "2/3". You see, Michael Jordan was 23. Torito's tail is growing back. I can't make that up. They said it, blame them. Long haired Hornswoggle came out to have his hair vs. mask match. ... God, this was horrible, from the commentary to the attempt at comedy. Attempt is the key word. ... JBL just namechecked Game Of Thrones. Wow. The crowd is chanting Ole, at least they are good sports. ... Heath Slater tried to get shears but again, "the bull" took them from him. ... That gave Horny control. He went for the Tadpole, but never made it to the first rope. The Matadores took out 3MB. I feel bad for all of these guys. ... Back in the ring, JBL made a reference to a dead bowler. I am serious. Anyway, they did big spots to wipe guys out on the floor. The fans chanted this is awesome. Maybe it's just me. Or maybe they are drunk. Who knows. ... Torito got a near fall but Horny kicked out and pulled off a mask. The bull had a second one. Horny thought he won, even though he didn't get a pin. Ugh. Anyway, Torito won and Horny is about to get shaved bald.
They then sat Horny in a chair and Torito shaved his head. Wow, if they want you to buy the show because of that, they have lost their minds. Or I have.
They set up the Cody Rhodes and Goldust vs. Rybaxel match. Cody was so happy it screamed he was turning on his brother. We will see.
Then we went back up to the booth where Booker T said HOLD ON, just as the crowd was chanting for CM Punk. Ouch. He was actually telling Kofi Kingston that he would be working Bo Dallas tonight. That was awkward.
So anyway, we have two bonus matches.
Thank God, the show is opening with Cesaro vs. Sheamus. They owe me after that pre-show. which was brutal.
Paul Heyman came out to say that he was here to advocate for a Paul Heyman guy. The fans chanted for CM Punk. Heyman said that Punk is watching the Blackhawks, which made the fans cheer. Then Heyman turned it into how Brock Lesnar beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania. So at least Punk is out of the way.
FYI, I am a little behind due to a food scenario. I will catch up. Sorry about that.
They started fast and furious. And stiff. ... Good stuff early, and because of the stiff JBL mentioned "Scotty Steiner". I guess he can be mentioned in WWE, but not in that other place. ... This is a hell of a lot of fun early on. For me at least, I am not getting beaten up. ... Cesaro got a two with a mid air uppercut. Cool spot. Then he went into slap the face mode, but Sheamus came back. The fans thought it was awesome. They are right. ... Sheamus went for the Brogue but Cesaro hit a German for the two. Cesaro went for the Neutralizer but got White Noised for a two. The fans are loving it. ... Sheamus locked on the Texas Cloverlead but Cesaro used his power to get to the ropes, and the announcers sold it. ... Cesaro then got a two with a Torture Rack slam. Cool spot. Heyman told Cesaro he has this, and he went swinging. A lot of them. A LOT. He felt cocky went for the Neutralizer but Sheamus rolled him up in a small package to retain the US Title. ... It was a great match to start the show. These two aren't done, and they shouldn't be.
My feed on ROKU crapped out, but I was able to reload it right away. I am about a half hour behind. I can live with this for the price, for sure.
The Rhodes Boys came out for their match with Rybaxel. The fans are chanting "Let's Go Hawks", as we predicted yesterday. Goldie is opening up with Axel. He and Ryback worked Goldie over early. ... Goldie finally tagged his brother in and was a house afire. He worked over both guys. He went to the top and butchered a moonsault when he lost his footing. It was not pretty how he hit Ryback. Ryback caught Cody coming off the top and threw him into Dust. Cody hit Crossroads for a two (when Axel made the save). Cody went for the Disaster Kick but Ryback caught him and hit Shellshock. ... Rybaxel laughter at Cody as they left. ... After the match, Goldust came back in the ring to console his brother. Cody didn't want to hear it. Cody called for a mic and told his brother that he needs a better tag team partner than him. And Cody left the ring. Goldie didn't like what he said and looked concerned. ... Fine for what it was.
Lana brought out Rusev, who she said was from Bulgaria but now resides in Russia. He has a Bulgarian flag. Perhaps he is confused. ... Big E was out next, and he had an American flag. No confusion there. They did a flag wave off. ... They started fast and furious. But, the fans chanted "We want Ziggler". Ugh. ... Big E put Rusev down and he got to the apron. Big E hit an awesome spear through the ropes, with both men hitting the floor. Guess who isn't chanting for Ziggler anymore? ... Big E came off of the ropes and ran into a stiff kick to the face by Rusev. Rusev locked on the Accolade (Camel Clutch) and Big E tapped out. Rusev held the hold until Lana told him to break it. They sold he was in a fight. ... This was a really good and fun big man match. I enjoyed it and would like to see them do it again.

They showed Daniel Bryan and his wife Brie in the back. Sorry, I can't call her Brie Bryan. What will he do tonight?
It's time for Kofi Kingston to make Bo Dallas look strong. Jerry Lawler doesn't think Bo has earned a PPV match yet after two matches. JBL thinks he is inspirational.
Bo heeled the Blackhawk fans, saying they will lose but they don't have to be losers. Before the match started, pyro pops and out comes Kane. Neither guy runs but Kofi ran less. He tried to attack Kane but it didn't work out so well. Bo stayed away as Kane worked over Kofi and nailed a chokeslam. Then a tombstone. Bo stayed on the floor and watched. Kane left. The refs tended to Kofi. Bo came back in and told Kofi not to worry. You will be back on your feet in now time, better than ever. All you have to do it Bolieve. Bo didn't pin him though.
They cut to the announcers and they all had that nasty Mountain Dew. Very little was missing from any of their bottles.
They showed the finish of the embarrassing pre-show match and Horny being shaved bald.
Time for Rob Van Dam to take on Bad New Barrett for the IC Title. Barrett got a good pop coming out. Vince, people like guys that have an edge and kick ass. Note to you. ... Bad News says that RVD will not be leaving with his title, and someone needs to put Old Yeller down. He is going on a permanent summer vacation via the Bullhammer. He is BNB. ... Early on, the fans did dueling chants for the guys. There are 13,311 there. That doesn't sound great. Oh, I just checked and it's 3-2 Blackhawks.
RVD was in control early, tossing Barrett all around the ringside area. He then hit a spinning legdrop from the apron to the barricade and the fans chanted ECW. ... Barrett came back with a kick to the midsection as RVD came off of the top. Barrett then kicked him off of the apron to the floor, then hit an elbow to the "heart". RVD was bleeding from his mouth. RVD made it back to the ring and Barrett worked him over. ... RVD came back and was in control until he missed the Five Star. Barrett missed the Bullhammer but got a two. Barrett went for the Hammer on the floor but missed and hit the post. RVD jumped into the ring with a Tornado DDT from the apron, but only got a two. He went for the Split Legged Moonsault but Barrett got the knees up. He followed with the Bullhammer and got the pin to retain the Title. Good, physical match. There has been a lot of good wrestling on the show tonight.
Coming up, what will Daniel Bryan do? ... After a vignette, out came Steph, smiling. She did a promo asking if Daniel will do the right thing or force her to fire his wife. Come out Dan. He comes out with Brie. They are smiling. Steph was totally insincere. Daniel said it's an opportunity for her. The people hate here. But she said it doesn't change the fact that she is the boss. Dan said he will give her the opportunity to show she can doe the right thing. The fans chanted CM Punk so Steph said they want you to quit just like CM Punk did. OUCH! Give up the belt or I will fire up your wife. Bryan said he hoped Steph's kids were watching so they can see she is a....what Brie? A BITCH! Steph said Brie has the guts in the family. The only thing she has done is make a poor choice in a husband. Brie said that they both know what needs to be done. He got the belt ready to present. Brie said no. She said she refuses to be a powerless victim. You don't control me. Brie said you can't fire her, she quits. Steph laughed so Brie slapped her HARD in the face, and the fans chanted YES! Steph had a WTF look and skulked away as the fans chanted YES!
Time for Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena, Last Man Standing match.
Bray is out first. Good pop when he said, "Chicago, we're here." Before he even came out, they did the back and forth let's go, he sucks chants for Cena. It is split for him. He really needs to lose and in a way that isn't via the backdoor. ... Before the match, Rowan and Harper were giving Bray an advantage so out came the USOs. It's three on three. ... Cena started strongly but Bray took control early. After a few minutes, he went for Sister Abigail but Cena got out. Bray immediately took control again. Bray is in control of this one so far. Cena has struggled to get up and beat the ten count a few times thus far. ... Cena fought Bray off on the top and his his legdrop to the head to turn the tide. He wen for the AA but ran into Sister Abigail. The Usos begged Cena to get up. He did at 9. Cena hit an AA and got up at 5. Bray did his spider move at 7. Then Rowan came in and the Usos did too. Harper and one of the Usos did big spots on the floor, so the seconds are out. Bray hit Cena with a chair three times, knocking Cena to the floor. Cena hot up at 7 and then turned the table on Bray, using the chair on him. Cena then went under the ring and got two tables. Bray got up at 7 and fell back down. He was playing possum and went after Cena. John when to put Bray through a table but it got blocked. Bray suplexed Cena thru a table. Cena got up at 8 tho. Bray brought in the ring steps and blasted Cena in the head with them. He got the fans to sing for him as Cena tried to get up and did at 7. Bray went back and got the chair but Cena rallied and hit Bray with the ring steps. Then Bray went to the floor and Cena ran in the ring and threw them into Bray's head when he was on the floor. DAMN! Cool spot. They sold Bray was done, but he got up at 8. Cena went under the ring for more tables. The camera missed it but Cena got nailed by Sister Abigail on the floor (and Cena has blood on his chest). Cena came back on the floor and whipped Bray into the ring post. Cena went to do maybe a piledriver by Bray backdropped him in the steps. Bray then hit a senton off of the steps onto Cena, who was prone on the floor. Cena was coughing and they sold he couldn't breather. He did get up though. ... Bray went to use the chair but Cena hit an AA on the floor. Cena wet back in the ring when Rowan and Jarper attacked Cena and then went and picked Bray up. Then they attacked Cena. Man, I was loving this match until this happened. ... Rowan and Harper set up tables when the Usos ran from the back (they left????) and took out Rowan. The other Uso tried to come out of the ring when Harper met his head with a table. Ouch. The refs went nuts because Bray was down and the ref didn't notice, and Bray was done. The chaos distracted him. One of the Usos put Rowan through a table. The other went to the top with Harper, who suplexed him through a table on the floor. The crowd went nuts. All four guys are out again. So it's back to Cena and Bray. ... Cena went for an AA but Bray got out. Bray then did a running press on Cena, blasting him through the barricade. Cool spot. Both men got up at 7. And out they went into the crowd. They went over to the equipment area where Cena put Wyatt throw one of the big equipment boxes. Then he put another box on top of it and stood up on it, so Bray couldn't get out, until the ref counted 10.
This match was a paradox. In and of itself, it was a great, great match. It was fun to watch and they worked their asses off. But on the downside, I started to groan when Bray was down and the ref didn't see it. I said to myself that when Bray wins, it will be tainted. Little did I know things would have been better if that had happened. Cena should not have won here. It did no good. I helped no one. The guy that a lot of fans are sick of always winning won again. The guy that needed a big win to break through to the next level lost. I am already getting hate email about the finish of this match. What is wrong with you Vince? Why won't you get that the way you book Cena does more harm than good? If the guy was actually vulnerable from time to time, people would actually care MORE about him. Good Lord, that is all I can say.

Time for Paige vs. Alicia Fox. Alicia went crazy crying and dominated early. Paige came back and made Alicia tap out to her finisher. The fans weren't into it, maybe because they haven't given us a reason to care yet, or maybe they still had the taste of the Cena finish in their minds. ... After the match, Alicia was losing it and the fans chanted she tapped out. She then went nuts anyway.
Time for the main event. I hope it can get the taste of vomit that the Cena finish left in my mouth out. I am still pissed off about that finish 15 minutes after it happened. I am going to do a hotline tomorrow with my thoughts for the show because I don't want to get worked up before I try to go to bed. That is how angry I still am about Cena winning again. It's bullsh**.
I liked that The Shield came out second. Hopefully WWE doesn't blow the booking in this match too.
It went back and forth early until Roman Reigns faced off with Triple H. That resonated and Reigns looked good when they faced off. The Rollins got a two after hitting Three Amigos on HHH. ... Batista came in and took control in Ambrose. As an aside, Batista has a bizarre outfit on. He has on legguns and sleeves on his arms. Who doesnt' tell this guy that he is middle aged and a pro wrestler, not a 15 year old? ... Ambrose and H were both spent when they made the tags. Reigns and Batista came in and Reigns cleaned house on him, with a shot at H for good measure. Reigns got a two with the Superman punch but Orton broke the count. Reigns and Batista were out in the ring when H and Rollins went over to the tent area. Ambrose nailed Orton off of the apron but H nailed Rollins in the head with something. Reigns laid Batista out on the floor and went to taking apart the ringside announce table when Orton nailed him from the back. HHH threw Reigns into the ring steps while Orton cleared off the table. Reigns was on his own against the three as his partners were laid out. They did a triple powerbomb on Reigns through the Spanish announce table. Evolution mocked Reigns over the table when Ambrose came out of nowhere and took them out. Then Rollins did the same. Evo went to work on them while Reigns was still down. H did a Pedigree on Rollins on the chair. He turned around and Reigns had dragged himself in the ring. Evo went back. Reigns jumped at Batista but ate a spinebuster. Evo took off Reigns jacket and brought the sticks in. Orton got a kendo stick. They worked him over on the steps and lashed him with the canes. Reigns' back looked bad. He hit the Superman punch on Orton, but H attacked him right afterwards. H used a chair on Reigns, and he kept moving. Ambrose tried to make the save so Evo attacked him instead, using the numbers against them. Suddenly, Rollins was on top of the TitanTron and did a splash, taking all three guys out. Very cool. Rollins fought down the aisle and got to the ring. Batista came in after him and ater a Rollins boot. Rollins came off of the second rope but met a Batista spear. Batista went for the Bomb as the fans booed, but Rollins got out of it. Suddenly Roman was there for the spear and Rollins got the cover. 3-2 Shield.
Orton hit an RKO on Rollins but Roman broke it up at two. Ambrose came in with a chair and nailed Orton, then did Dirty Deeds for the three. It's HHH vs. The Shield. H did a nut shot on Ambrose and set up for the Pedigree but Roman his the Superman punch. Before there could be a cover BooTista came in and nailed Reigns. The fans were not happy. Orton didn't leave either, he grabbed the sledgehammer and gave it to HHH. He used it on Ambrose. He waited for Roman But Rollins came out of nowhere and hit him with a knee to the head. Reigns then hit a spear and got the pin. The Shield wins 3-0. The show went off the air with The Shield standing over HHH.
This was an excellent match and booked exactly as it should have been booked. Everyone looked good and in the end, the right guys won in the right way. It was the exact opposite of the finish of the Cena match.
Overall, the work on this show was outstanding. With the exception of one match, the booking was great. In a vacuum it was a great show. Of course, the show didn't take place in a vacuum and the finish of the Cena-Wyatt match was horrible, just horrible. But aside from that, this was a great show. Between this and NXT Takeover, the Network has been a bargain this week.
