Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards are at this point only committed
short term, having contract extension. They are working at least
through the 8/17 show in New York. Their winning of the tag titles from
Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov on 8/3 in Toronto doesn’t change that
situation or indicate they are staying long past that date. This had
been a long-term plan and even though their deals expired on 8/1, they
agreed to continue the original plans for now. The match was said to be
really good. Richards & Edwards defend the belts as the main event
of the 8/17 show in New York at the Hammerstein Ballroom against former
champs Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish. The nature of the extensions
they signed allows them the right to negotiate with WWE and TNA at this
time. Right now they aren’t advertised on shows past this point.
My impression is the fate of the Briscoes, as to whether they get
signed by WWE, go to TNA (and the talk is that they would have an offer
there if they chose to take it) or stay with ROH will be decided within
the next two months or so. At one point, Jay was going to return in
Toronto. They are in talks about signing new deals and the company
believes things are going well.
There is a basic feeling in ROH among the guys whose contracts
are up that they aren’t that hot on going to TNA. Some may, but more
than ever, there is uncertainty about TNA and whether right or wrong,
the feeling is if you sign with TNA, you may never get to WWE, which
seems to be most people’s ultimate goal. There are guys who believe
they could go to TNA and seem more likely to stay here for another year
and hope WWE will give them a shot. The thing is, if you are signed and
put in developmental with the other 100 guys, your odds in TNA of
making a name is so much higher.
