Rey Mysterio health update

On Smackdown, they did injury angles with both Rey Mysterio (in a phantom angle) and Sin Cara being taken out by The Shield. Both men are expected to be out of action indefinitely. Sin Cara had a legitimate knee injury and they did a spot at the PPV as well as an angle where The Shield beat him down two days later and they held his leg out for Seth Rollins to come off the top rope with a kneedrop on it. They announced later in the show he had severe knee damage and was at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (usually they just say a local medical facility. With WWE medical head Dr. Joseph Maroon from that facility, that’s likely why they plugged it). At press time it isn’t clear how severe the knee damage is or how long he will be out of action.

During the same show, Mysterio’s music played but he never came out to be in Sin Cara’s corner for a singles match with Damien Sandow, who had Cody Rhodes in his corner. When The Shield did a beat down on Sin Cara, they had a Mysterio mask and the story was that they had given him a beat down before the show started. I believe Mysterio actually flew back home to San Diego after Raw. It was announced Mysterio had a severe neck injury from the beating, as a cover reason where it sounded like he also would be out of action for a while.

Several WWE sources said Mysterio was not injured. Several weeks back, Mysterio was gone due to personal reasons. There was a family situation that he had asked to be kept confidential where he was needed at home and asked for time off. He did come back and work Saturday through Monday on the road and it was believed he was back. His situation is up in the air.
